WBUR and Azigo Launch New Discount Reminder Service

Station Drives Value for Members and Underwriters

NEEDHAM, MA (August 20, 2009) – WBUR, one of the country’s pre-eminent public radio stations, has partnered with Azigo, a leader in user-centric technologies, to help its member listeners save money when they surf the Web. Azigo’s software will allow WBUR to reach these members wherever they go on the Internet.

WBUR produces more than 25 hours of original news and programming each week. The station relies on underwriters, and contributing listeners to fund these programs. Through its partnership with Azigo, WBUR members will see the station logo any time an underwriter appears in search results on Yahoo! and Google.  If the underwriter offers a discount to listeners, they will be reminded to take advantage of savings they might not otherwise have remembered or known about. When a listener goes to a competing site of an underwriter, they will be reminded of the discount at the underwriter’s site.

These in-browser reminders are powered by Information Card technology, a new standard endorsed by industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, PayPal and Equifax.  Information Cards simplify the Web, reducing login and Web site registration to a “one-click” experience. At the same time, Information Cards increase user privacy and safety.  Azigo’s service uses Information Cards to create new and exciting Web experiences such as cross-site shopping reminders.

The Azigo partnership is a win-win proposition,” says Station Manager Corey Lewis. “Our members and underwriters are vital to our public service mission of bringing quality news and informational programming to an ever-expanding community of listeners. The in-browser reminders allow us to bring these two sets of contributors together to realize benefits in a direct relationship with each other.”

Information Cards bring a familiar off-line paradigm—the cards you carry in your wallet—to the online world. The WBUR discount program acts like a virtual discount card online,” said Jack Connors, president of Azigo. “We are confident this program will help WBUR recruit and retain members and underwriters.”
